Record-Breaking Walking Bus10.37.00am BST (GMT +0100) Sat 20th Jun 2009 On Wednesday 11 June 2008 at 10AM, 200,000 children took part in short walks as part of supervised 'walking buses,' and learning essential road safety lessons on the way. The children will use safe routes around their school to break the world record for the biggest simultaneous walking bus. Neil joined the walking bus and said: The walking bus is a great idea. We should support and encourage parents and children to get involved. Walking is a great form of exercise and helps improve fitness. The walking bus will also help to remove traffic congestion from around many school gates. This is the 5th year running for the Record-Breaking Walking Bus. The event also aims to raise awareness among drivers of the need to slow down and 'Watch Out There's a Kid About', encourage schools to run more road safety initiatives, and raise vital funds for Brake.
